The premium cigar world is buzzing again — and with good reason. After three years off the market, RoMa Craft Tobac’s highly respected Intemperance BA XXI has officially returned to retail shelves. Produced at the brand’s acclaimed Nica Sueño factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, the line is once again shipping from Central America to the company’s headquarters in Austin, Texas.
For many enthusiasts, the comeback of the BA XXI represents far more than a product restock; it’s the revival of one of RoMa Craft’s most distinctive creations — a blend celebrated for its bold personality, dark profile, and unmistakable Brazilian character.
The Story Behind the Comeback
Originally released in 2012, the Intemperance BA XXI quickly developed a loyal following. Its unique blend — built around a dense, flavorful Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper — gave the cigar a profile unlike anything else in RoMa Craft’s portfolio. However, sourcing the right grade of Arapiraca leaf proved increasingly difficult, eventually forcing the company to pause production.
After years of waiting, the necessary wrapper quality has finally returned, allowing the BA XXI line to resume production without compromising RoMa Craft’s strict standards. Beneath the wrapper remains the original architecture: a sturdy Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua plus an undisclosed origin, contributing to the blend’s layered complexity.
Introducing the New Vitola: Treachery 6 × 54
Alongside the relaunch, RoMa Craft has introduced a new vitola to the BA XXI family: Treachery (6 × 54). This toro extra format replaces the previously offered Ambition belicoso, aligning with RoMa Craft’s strategic announcement last year to transition away from belicoso shapes in several lines.
The Treachery vitola is expected to highlight the blend’s natural density, offering a cooler burn, a longer smoking time, and a flavor expression that should appeal to both returning fans and curious newcomers.
Why This Release Matters
The revival of the Intemperance BA XXI speaks to a theme that defines the boutique cigar industry: craftsmanship guided by principle. Rather than compromise on leaf quality, RoMa Craft chose to suspend production until the proper materials became available again — a decision that reinforces the company’s reputation for consistency and integrity.
The BA XXI is widely recognized for its profile of earth, cocoa, black pepper, espresso, and the signature depth that Arapiraca delivers. Its return adds welcome diversity to today’s market, especially as demand for dark, full-flavored cigars continues to grow.
Why did the Intemperance BA XXI leave the market?
Production stopped due to the lack of Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper of the quality RoMa Craft requires. The cigar has now returned because suitable wrapper leaf is once again available.
What makes the BA XXI blend unique?
The combination of Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from Nicaragua plus an undisclosed origin creates a rich, layered, full-flavored profile.
What is special about the new Treachery vitola?
Treachery (6 × 54) replaces the former belicoso in the lineup, aligning with RoMa Craft’s strategy to emphasize toro and toro-extra sizes across key lines.
