Description
The Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel-Aged Maduro Gordo 6″ × 60 combines extensively aged Nicaraguan tobacco with one of Perdomo’s most distinctive maturation techniques.
The process begins with tobaccos carefully selected and aged for a minimum of six years. For the Maduro expression, Perdomo then takes its Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper and ages it for an additional 14 months in bourbon barrels, allowing the leaf to reach greater maturity in flavor, aroma, color, and texture.
Underneath the dark Maduro wrapper is an entirely Nicaraguan core consisting of a Cuban-seed Nicaraguan binder and Cuban-seed Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. The filler blend incorporates tobacco from Nicaragua’s celebrated growing regions, including Estelí, Condega, and Jalapa, bringing together strength, aroma, and natural sweetness.
Perdomo characterizes the Maduro as rich and robust, with sweet complexity and a finish highlighted by cocoa and dark-roasted coffee. The bourbon-barrel maturation adds another dimension to the wrapper without turning this into a flavored cigar—the tobacco remains completely natural.
At 6″ × 60, the Gordo provides a substantial amount of aged Nicaraguan filler and abundant smoke production. Its large ring gauge emphasizes the rich tobacco core while the bourbon barrel-aged Maduro wrapper contributes sweetness and depth throughout the experience.
The blend is officially classified as Medium to Full-Bodied, making it particularly appealing to experienced smokers who enjoy rich Maduro cigars without requiring overwhelming strength.
Handmade in Nicaragua by Perdomo, the Habano Bourbon Barrel-Aged Maduro Gordo is an excellent choice for Maduro enthusiasts, bourbon drinkers, and smokers who appreciate the complexity that extended tobacco aging can produce.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT
The defining characteristic here is not simply the Maduro wrapper—it’s what Perdomo does to that wrapper before the cigar is rolled.
After six years of aging, the Nicaraguan Maduro leaf receives another 14 months of bourbon barrel aging, producing a rich, naturally sweet character that complements its cocoa, coffee, oak, and earthy flavors.
Combined with the generous 6″ × 60 dimensions, this creates a substantial, slow-smoking Maduro experience with plenty of complexity.
KEY FEATURES EXTENDED
- Medium-to-Full-Bodied – A rich, robust Nicaraguan blend balancing strength with sweetness and smoothness.
- Sweet & Robust Profile – Expect cocoa, dark-roasted coffee, earth, oak, subtle spice, and natural Maduro sweetness.
- 6-Year-Aged Tobacco – Perdomo selects tobaccos aged for a minimum of six years before they qualify for the bourbon barrel-aging process.
- 14-Month Bourbon Barrel-Aged Maduro Wrapper – After its initial aging, the Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper spends an additional 14 months in bourbon barrels.
- 100% Nicaraguan Tobacco Architecture – Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper surrounds Cuban-seed Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos.
- Estelí, Condega & Jalapa Tobacco – The filler blend showcases tobacco from three of Nicaragua’s most important growing regions.
- Large-Ring Gordo Experience – The 6″ × 60 format provides abundant smoke, substantial filler presence, and a long, relaxed session.
- Naturally Aged, Not Flavored – Despite the bourbon barrel process, this is a traditional non-flavored premium cigar. The barrel aging is part of the wrapper’s maturation process rather than an artificial flavor infusion.
- Pairing Experience – Perdomo officially recommends Scotch & Bourbon, both natural partners for the cigar’s Maduro sweetness, oak, cocoa, and dark-roasted coffee character.
WHY THIS BLEND STANDS OUT
The barrel-aging process is what separates this Perdomo from a conventional Nicaraguan Maduro.
Perdomo doesn’t simply place tobacco into bourbon barrels briefly for marketing purposes. The wrapper first undergoes at least six years of conventional aging, followed by 14 additional months of bourbon barrel aging.
That makes the wrapper potentially more than seven years into its maturation process before considering the finished cigar’s subsequent aging.
Another important distinction for customers:
This is NOT a bourbon-flavored cigar.
The bourbon barrel is used as part of the tobacco-aging process. This remains a traditional premium cigar, unlike an infused cigar where external flavorings become a defining part of the smoking experience.
WHO IS THIS CIGAR FOR?
The Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel-Aged Maduro Gordo is ideal for:
- Perdomo enthusiasts
- Maduro cigar smokers
- Medium-to-full-bodied cigar enthusiasts
- Bourbon and Scotch drinkers
- Nicaraguan tobacco enthusiasts
- Large-ring cigar smokers
- Coffee and cocoa profile enthusiasts
- Smokers interested in barrel-aged tobacco
PAIRING RECOMMENDATIONS
The Perdomo Habano BBA Maduro Gordo pairs especially well with:
- Bourbon
- Scotch
- Rye Whiskey
- Espresso
- Dark-Roast Coffee
- Aged Rum
- Porter or Stout
- Dark Chocolate
Perdomo’s official recommendations are Scotch and Bourbon.
For this particular blend, bourbon would be my first recommendation. Its oak, vanilla, caramel, and natural sweetness provide a logical complement to the cigar’s bourbon barrel-aged Maduro wrapper, cocoa, coffee, and sweet tobacco character.
CIGAR DEPOT’S TAKE
The 14-month bourbon barrel aging should be one of the primary selling points on this product page.
A customer seeing “Bourbon Barrel-Aged” could easily assume this is another flavored or infused cigar. It isn’t.
This is a traditional premium Nicaraguan cigar where Perdomo uses bourbon barrels as an additional tobacco maturation technique after years of conventional aging.
The result is much more interesting for the premium-cigar customer: Maduro sweetness, cocoa, dark coffee, earth, and oak, with the bourbon barrel helping shape the wrapper rather than overpowering the tobacco.
And the 6″ × 60 Gordo gives that aged Nicaraguan filler blend plenty of room to express itself.
EXPERT TIPS
Cut Recommendation
A straight cut works especially well with the large 60-ring head. Use a cutter designed to accommodate larger ring gauges comfortably.
Humidor Recommendation
Store around 65–69% relative humidity for consistent combustion and preservation of the Maduro wrapper.
Estimated Smoking Time
Approximately 80–100 minutes, depending on smoking pace.
Best Occasion
Excellent as an evening or after-dinner cigar, particularly alongside bourbon, Scotch, or espresso.
